Greenway
The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department develops and maintains the Mecklenburg County Greenway system which includes both the Clark's Creek and Mallard Creek Greenways.
Greenways are vegetated natural buffers that improve water quality, reduce the impacts of flooding, and provide wildlife habitat. Greenway trails provide recreation, transportation, fitness, and economic benefits for all to enjoy.
The Mallard Creek Greenway connects Mallard Grove to other neighborhoods in our community. There are entrances to the Mallard Creek Greenway at the end of Mallard Grove Road and Maylandia Road. The Mallard Creek Greenway joins the Clark Creek Greenway. These two greenways feature 5.9 miles of paved trails and link up to the University Research Trail. The University Research Trail is a 1.2 mile gravel path that follows Mallard Creek through the University Research Park.
The University Research Trail connects to the newest part of the Mallard Creek Greenway which opened up in late 2005. This section is a 1.5 mile paved trail that goes under I-85, US29 and Mallard Creek Church Road. The trail ends near UNCC at the Citgo Soccer Fields.
The Toby Creek Greenway links the existing Mallard Creek Greenway to the UNC Charlotte campus and shopping areas. The 1.6 mile trail ends at NC 49 with a crosswalk to the Town Center Plaza. Roads on the UNCC campus provide access to the shopping centers along North Tryon (US 29).
